Rattling Engine

Hello, i am a new member and wanted to ask a few questions regarding my high mileage Toyota Avensis T3-S 1.8, 2003 model (newer shape). Its now clocked 113,000 miles and since 80,000 its been drinking a lot of oil which seems a common problem with this model. Its had a Toyota service history up to 76,172 miles and then I've had local garages do the annual service to save a little money. Recently I've noticed that the engine is rattling (sounds like tappets) and there is a rattle from the exhaust when i accelerate. I also, since 90,000 miles have had a engine management light on which I have sourced back to the catalyst converter which i need to replace. For now though i am more concerned about the rattling. can anyone help with advice and my next course of action?

Hello mate

i am inclined to be sure the cat converter has died giving you such sound. It is proven by a check engine light ON.

If you remain your car for a long term then it is necessary to change a short engine but if not then ...

Cheers/Igor
