Missing White Switch Off Ignition?

My Remote Fobs have stopped working, after regreasing the steering wheel splines and changing come cluster bulbs...

I've checked the wiring no damage...

So I assume they're just out of sync...

I've followed the procedure for Reprogramming, but I don't think the car can tell when my key is in the ignition...

There's a small white plastic part the slides onto the side of the ignition, there is a contact point in it, which it seems that once the key is placed into the barrel the brass moves down and makes contact, telling the car the key is in the ignition for some reason or another?

Anyways, I broke mine trying to get it off seeing if it worked and noticed the brass bar was covered in orange paint, which would of stop conductivity...

Is this stopping the RCL programming working? The part in question is labelled valeo and has a 2 pin harness attached...

where can I source a new one? Cheaply?

Having changed the ignition switch, I know the anti theft device transponder can be detached for removal or moved to one side.

If you did break it, then go the scrappy and get another one.

On the other hand you may have not broken it. Have another look, because from what you described, you may have forgot to put it back. It is black and has the key position legend on it. It clips over the ignition barrel (which is white), and has a cable leading from it to a plug. You may have just left it tucked further in the steering gear.

Just recheck again.

No you've misunderstood me...

It's not the immobiliser transponder, that's black cowling that slides into the barrel..

My car works fine, apart from needing reprogram the keys!

It's a small plastic part that makes contact with the brass pin that comes down when the pins of the key barrel drop.

It slides in the side of the barrel but doesn't seem to have affected the operation of the car.

Sorry if I read you wrong Avensis T22. It was how you described your fault and what you were doing.

You stated that the keys stopped being recongnised 'after' you dismantled then re-assembled the area of the car you were working on!

I might have got the part wrong, but the answer is still the same - go to the breakers yard for the part you said you broke.

If you had pictures of the part you broke, it would help. Others may have an idea what to advise.

When I locate pictures I took of my ignition barrel, when I changed the switch.

Hope you get running soon.

I appeared to have located the problem...

The Receiver Door Control, under the steering wheel hadn't been moved, but clearly knocked...

There is a small board, possible an antenna which sits on top of the main PCB... it had clearly been poorly soldered and was rattling around in the casing, I've tried resoldering but to no avail...

I shall install an aftermarket r/c/l and alarm system with fobs....

That way my broken siren and door control module are replaced, probably alot cheaper...

There is also a Fujistu Theft ECU next to the engine and ABS ECU behind the glovebox.

If I want to completely disable the system am I best removing this too?

Many thanks.
