When cold starting I find 2nd gear engaging quite hard, after little drive it becomes smooth again....sometimes in 1st aswell but not as much, but its only in the morning when engine cold. Car is 2005 Toyota Avensis T4 2.2 diesel with 74000 miles, just had full service done. Could it be a syncro goin or is it common to this type Avensis especially when engine is cold, is it something to do with gearbox oil warming up.....

Any help apreciated.....

its very common for gearboxes to be harder to get in to gears when cold.it does not mean the box is failing.

with your miliage.why not treat the gearbox to a oil change.even though in theory it should not need one.

It may be placed in service specification box 75W90 oil.

The 6-speed gearboxes put Toyota Oil LV 75W specification.
