Hi there - Had the engine rebuilt by Toyota dealer under warranty due to the burning oil issues. However, since I got it back, it has less power than it had before they worked on it. Told the dealer and was advised to "Let it bed in for a couple of thousand miles". Is this normal? I miss the extra "oomph" the car used to have in 6th gear to overtake on motorways. Could it be a turbo problem now?

hello mate

yes they're correct to have it bedded; you had to ask to measure compression rate in kg/cm2 to see whether or not all cylinders have an equal max compression pressure. Besides -- a loss of power might be because of bad injection timing adjustment after have assembled the engine. You are entitle to claim it , as well.

Cheers/Igor

If you are not happy with the work they have done keep going back at them. How long did they advise bedding the engine in when it was new? Oh, wait there, it produced full power from new, they just advise running it in a bit. Methinks they are bluffing you in the hope that you will get used to it and not go back to them.
