Clutch Problems

I am (or was) about to buy a 2006 AVENSIS 2.2 D-4D T3-X Diesel but have seen a lot of stuff about problems with clutches and fly-wheels. Can anybody offer any words of comfort or warning? All help much appreciated. I'm trying to compare it to an old model 2007 Mondeo Ghia.

Cheers for any help.

Lots of chatter about all sorts of problems. With the exception of a starter motor and EGR valve (that I could have cleaned if /i had known) mine has been no bother at all. Great car, goes well, really comfy, good economy. Buy it.

I've read of a lot of problems with the 2005 onwards 2.2 Turbo diesel engine blowing head gaskets and requiring new engines after the 80K mileage mark, and faulty water pumps that leak all the coolant out being one of the causes. I wouldnt touch one if I were you. My Aunt has an 06 plate 2.0 D4D Avensis, which has the older 2.0 diesel engine that was discontinued in 2006 - these seem to be a lot more reliable and she's had no problem with hers, although they are not the most powerful engines, taxi drivers swear by them. Havent read much about DMF failure though, unless very high mileage on clocks - I'm sure any Taxi drivers may correct me?
