Whats your best MPG you have had out of your new Yaris T Spirit, at the moment only around town and getting 40mpg, how good is the computer reading average mpg on the car. has anyone got 55mpg yet, does the engine need to seat in before you get better mpg ?

Does yours have power steering? I think it must be 1.33. I have just ordered one. The car I tested only achieved 41mph on test. Dealer told me it will improve as car loosens up. Just checked Toyota uk website and it would appear that new T spirit models don't have power steering. Let me know if you know any better,

many thanks,

You'll never achieve the published MPG in any car - its a completely artificial test that's undertaken on a rolling road. It doesn't represent any real driving conditions and doesn't represent what you can expect to get in real driving. Its purpose is merely so that every car is tested in exactly the same way, so that you can compare the results between different models.

Yes you might achieve something like it in ideal conditions when cruising over a single run, but you can't expec tot get it as an average over any large distance under city or motorway conditions.

On my 1.0, I saw an average 67mpg many times on the computer over a 10 mile trip but its real average over its lifetime (64000 miles)was only 44mpg and I never reached 50mpg over a whole tankful.

On our 1.3, the "official" MPG is 47 and I have seen 55mpg on the computer over a single trip, but over a whole tank of petrol, its never ever averaged more than 42mpg and overall, over its first 12000 miles, its averaged just 38mpg.

So yes - if you take it out on a run rather than driving around time, the mpg will get better but I think an average of about 38-40 is about what you should expect....

The car's fuel economy mostly depends on how the car is driven, what roads etc. Around town it obviously won't achieve its best figures. Out on the open roads, the car is more at home on that sense. Also keep to the speed limits. It may seem slow but you do use less fuel doing that. Have a try of it outside the towns.

Where I live, most of the roads are nice and open (a beauty of the north-east) and I'm quite light-footed and as a result, the car's economy is incredible. I'm often averaging over 50mpg (same engine & quoted mpg figure as alfiejts). Managed to hold the computer on 55.4mpg over a whole tankful once last year.

YarisOAP, are you making full use of the car's stop/start system? No doubt that helps mpg over the older 1.3 though in the very early miles the car will still be all tight. I found after around 2,000 miles (for definite) that the car begins to bed in nicely.

And all Yarises come with power assisted steering though it isn't always advertised.

That MPG seems a bit !Removed! if I may say so, I used to get a solid 48MPG from my 07 1.3 SR and that was mixed driving on fast roads and town.

I thought the MPG was a bit down, but still only on the 1st tankful, maybe get better as it get some miles under its belt

It'll get better as the car loosens up, but out of the three engines, the 1.33 is the least economical, esp. if you get stuck in slow traffic a lot :(

Still, it's much more fun to drive on the motorway and A-roads than the 1.0 :P
