i have a 2ltr d4d done 92k miles on 05 plate,

i filled the car up with correct fuel then 2 miles down the road my car starts loosing power, would struggle if revs was at 2.5k revs but if i coud lget to 4k revs would run as normal just at high revs,

no engine management light is on, i had to car returned to where i bought it from... they could not diagnose the problem said id have to take it to a jap specialist but they thought possible egr valve,

so took it to japtech in hull whos taken a look and says 2 out of my 4 fuel injectors are putting fuel back into the tank and reccomends all four been refurbished costing 1100 plus vat

im not clever with cars so wanted someone else oppinion. also when i bought the car i took a extended 2 year or up2 100k turbo and engine warrenty im not sure if fuel injectors would be covered ?

reading my warrenty says includes fuel injection system i guess fuel injectors would be coverd?

hello mate

what were your observations prior to filling up?

whether the power was OK and the gas pedal was responsible?

when said "putting diesel back into the tank" -- it means the needle in the own housing blocked and it might be happened because of dirty fuel. Now you must to think carefully about above.

Cheers/Igor

thank you for your responce

all was running fine upto the point after filling up 66quid at morrisons, i had done a 120 mile trip the day before with no issues and drove to the fuel station no issues,

if its just a blocked injector due to dirty fuel can this not just be blasted out? is there any way to prove on dirty fuel? sorry i guess im sounding dumb

hello mate

firstly -- a pair of (needle + housing) are called injector nozzle -- this pair have been precisely manufactured having greatly small gap between needle and its housing and this presumes the diesel quality must be very good. Sometimes one should not safe money for good fuel -- otherwise this economy will be spend on the battle with carbon deposits; injectors repair; turbo repair. When the needle is blocked inside (does not move by fuel pressure)the same fuel is forced to by passing thru returning line into the tank. This pair life time depends on fuel quality but of course must be changed by reaching of definite millage.Cheers/Igor

Add a can of BK244 to your fuel tank and run it through the system before embarking on any further action.

Although not cheap its the best on the market, far better than the likes of Forte etc and if nothing else will clean and prepare the rest of the fuel system ready for the new injectors if they`re still needed.

Hi...

and what about using Millers Diesel Power ECOMAX ?

Millers diesel additive is an excellent product (I`m on my second gallon) but it is mainly used as a preventative / maintenance type (although it can and does clean) for systems in reasonable order as opposed to BK244 which is really specifically for cleaning systems which haven`t had the benefit of regular cleaning.

well the garage contacted me on tuesday saying the problem isnt the fuel injectors, yet there on border line.

but the problem was actually the air meter sensor which theve got the part and fitted,

picked the car up 2day and my problem continues but slightly different

all drives fine or so it seems untill i take the foot of the gas to slow down and re apply acceleration

then i have no power untill i either drop it down 2 gears or clutch and rev then the car returns to good power again

its like my car gets choaked up ???

I notice that you say that you filled up with Morrisons fuel?

Were you aware that Morrisons have a higher content of Bio fuel than most other filling stations, and the D4D is only meant to run on a bio blend of no more than 5%, so the issue could simply be the fuel.

Personally i would change the fuel filter and put a tank of non-supermarket fuel in the tank and see if it improves.

It WILL be cheaper than changing the injectors.

Hi

I have recently encountered same power loss with my 2002 Avensis D4D. Reviewing the Avensis forum I read that supermarket fuels may well be the issue, and especially Morrisons. The recomendation was to add a can of Powerenhancer BG 244 to the fuel tank, one can is sufficient to treat 60 ltrs. The problem was resolved successfully, full power havng been restored and decrease in fuel consumption to 54mpg.

Big thanks to Dervdave
