Lifted the engine cover off today and found 2 of the 4 pipe type things are all black and oily while the other two are shiny and clean. I took photos but cant seem to upload them on my phone. (could email them if someone else could upload them!)

Any thoughts?

They could then upload them for me....

Looks to me as if it is just an accumulation of oil having been spilt when re-filling over the years

Ha! Thanks anchs and davrav. Was just having a nosey as the engine sounds different with the additive in the fuel!

Holiday is good so I'll look at it when I get back on Monday.

Yes agree -- it's an oil remainders + dust. DO not add an oil in the night to prevent spilling on the engine.

what's web got!!???

Engine bay paranoia!!!

All the suggestions are it's just excess oil from past fill ups. Why are two of the pipes uber shiny and two not?

Also, anchs where are these instructions for cleaning the engine bay?

You'd be surprised just how much turmoil there is in the engine compartment when the car is moving at speeds up to ???mph! The oil will get caught up and distributed in strange ways. However, there is a slight chance that something around the head cover is weeping oil but you won't tell until you have cleaned it and it may take another year for you to see it (especially if you get better at pouring oil  ). Give it a clean when you get back and on your 4.3 don't forget to spray some Gunk onto the engine cover and lay it beside the car so you can wash it after the engine itself.

Anyway............

........paranoia is much easier to treat than OCD - wheres my sump duster???

before jet washing --- check carefully with injection pipes connections -- it looks like the first one has a minor leak uop the pipep body + partly on the head. Cheers/Igor

It goes in for it's 50k mile service soon and to keep my warranty happy it'll be big Mr T who does it so I'll ask them to check all is happy with those injectors!

I think I'm right in saying 'parts king' is a Toyota man but I think he's a bit far away to service me motor. I there anyone nearer to home (edinburger) who fancies the job?
