Air Con

I got my wifes 08 reg Yaris TR in November 2010 and it's been a great little car - she loves it! SInce we got it I've been running the air con every couple of weeks, just to keep things in order, however with this warmer weather it became apparent that the air con wasn't cooling like it should. I dropped it into our local Toyota dealer yesterday to get checked out and it needed regassed, costing £45 total. Unfortunately, this was not covered under the warranty. I know I could have saved a couple of quid by going somewhere else like Kwik Fit, but to be honest I'm not a great fan of places like that and question their abilities. At least I know I can go back to Mr T if is gives a further problem

Moral of the story is that you don't know how the previous owner of the car treated the a/c and potentially they may never even have used it. If you're looking at a car 2-3 years old, be sure to check the a/c is working as it should. I normally just keep the climate on all year round in my other car and intend to do the same in this one now

Personally go one step further and take it to a AirCon specialist. When I had my Mondeo, Ford wanted £400 to fix it when the clutch went. Took it to the specialist and they fixed it for £150 as the bearing just needed replacing, and front plate I think. But Ford would have just changed to whole unit. Suspect Toyota might do the same.

I bought my Yaris in August 2009 from Mr.T and now I can say it doesn't cool on max "cold" setting as it did before. I also have been turning it on at least once a week for 5-10 minutes all year round to keep the device in good shape. And now, almost 2 years on I think it's unavoidable and I need to regas it. £45 doesn't sound so bad...

my auris air con did not seem as cold on the lowest seting as my mondeo had.so when it went into my local toyota dealer for its final service before the warranty ran out i asked them to check it for me.they wanted £70 to stick it on some machine to do a test.

so i refused and they did a manuel test by checking the 2 pipes going into the system and said it seemed ok.but ive read on these forums that toyota a/c do not seem t get as cold as some others do.i leave the climate control on all the time, and it must effect fuel consumption a little but i accept that.

was up on coast on sat and the car got very hot in the sun when parked, but soon cooled down to 21 c that the climate control was set at.so all appears alright.

My Fiesta Mkv was re-gassed at Ford dealer in 2010. Charged £70.00! Year later needed new compressor. Although it was under warranty fortunatly. Now have new Yaris with climate control & seems very good. Had one in Spain and that worked very well. Obviously needed much more there.
