I'm Becoming Paranoid!

Oh dear. I'm averaging 64 mpg over the last 650 miles of mainly out of town driving. Yesterday when it dropped to 63.8 I became aware of increasingly desperate efforts to bring it back up to 64 again including slowing down up hills, taking my foot off when downhill. This is a pain. Do I need help?

Are you for real? lol

Trusting you've checked your tyre pressures lately? They change with ambient temperature.

Keeping your car well polished will also help!

Perhaps it's the extra weight of all the dead flies on the front bumper?

I'd say be paranoid - at low 60's mpg I'm insanely jealous as I'm only getting low 50's from my Gen 3 T-Spirit. The massive increase in fuel consumption after last November's service, new tyres and cold weather (all 3 happened at once, so can't really say what caused the consumption hike) has meant that I'm now so depressed that I've given up on trying to improve consumption (coupled with the fact that since January I've not needed to use the Prius for work, so my wife has been driving most of the time!) One good thing from this forum is that for everyone getting "low 70's" to the gallon, there are still some poor souls (like me) who are struggling to get into the low 50's.... so at least I'm not alone!

Dave R, you say after the service??? You got the wrong oil put in..... Print some of the comments about oil on here and go back to the dealers.... I'll bet they put 5w-30 in instead of the proper 0w-20.... Get the oil changed to the right one and you will notice an immediate improvement.

Check your tyre pressures too.

Thanks - had lots of issues with oil (check back on some of my earlier posts in this forum!). I had WWIII with the dealer last year, but I've had a 40,000 mile service a few weeks ago (with a different dealer, who immediately said they'd use 0W20 oil - so I'm pretty confident they used the correct oil). I've cranked the tyre pressures up... though, as I say, my wife's driving the Prius far more than me just now, as I'm not driving so much with my job at present so I've given up on worrying about it.
