Convertible ?

When I recently purchased my (wonderful) prius I asked the salesman if they did a convertible prius - he laughed, looked at me as if I was rather stupid and said 'er No!'. I just wondered why it was such a daft question - is there some reason hybrids and convertibles don't work together, all I could think of is the boot space might not be big enough to store a soft top as well.

I reckon Toyota are missing a trick cos I for one would be interested in one - surely there must be a market for them, what do others think?

Weight and aerodynamics rule it out, I expect. Convertibles are much heavier than the equivalent saloon/hatch due to the extra stiffening required in the absence of a fixed roof, and they're much worse for drag.

I have read somewhere that we in the UK buy more convertibles than any other country.

Gawd knows why, the weather is either too wet, too cold or too hot! Doesn't seem to be an happy medium :crybaby:

Maybe you could ask Top Gear to convert one for you :D

Someone in the U.S. has converted a Prius to a convertible. Strengthening the body appears to have caused a few issues ...
