Starting Problem - Help Please!

Hi

I have Auris D-4D TR

Sometimes when you go to start it, it does nothing. The ignition comes on, you can wait for the glow plug light to go out, put your foot on the clutch, turn the key and nothing!! Other times it starts first time!!!

Also you could of driven it for a while, pull up to fill up or put something in the boot, go to start it again and the same thing happens!! Sometimes you have to lock it and unlock it again and then it goes and sometimes you have to do this 2 or 3 times!!

It is becoming very annoying!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi and welcome to toc,sorry about your problems with the car.

have you tried disconnecting the Battery for ten mins.this may help.you will lose some things like trip computor and radio presets.while at it check all Battery connections icluding Battery earth to chassis and engine.

is it any worse when engine is cold than when warmed up.how good is Battery,a poor Battery can do funy things with electronics.if on your model you need to dip clutch to start then may the clutch switch or what ever needs adjusting as maybe making poor connection.

The problem is the same whether it's hot or cold.

Measured the Battery with the engine off the other day. Measured 12.5V DC. Thought that was ok?

Yes, that's fine.

It may be the microchip for the immobiliser?

Have you tried using the spare key for a while?

When this problem occurs does the engine turn over?

it looks i've have had the same on my rav -- the issue was with (+) terminal inside of Battery. the symptoms were the same. cheers

Thank's for the response's.

I disconnected the Battery for 10 mins and the problem has gone away now for over a week!

Fingers crossed!!!!
