There is no benefit in having the engine running as it is in no way connected to the servo even though it shares the same reservoir. If you reach into the car and press the clutch with your fingers you should feel it go firm after the 1st half inch or so. Ask somebody to watch the clutch arm and they should see it move as you feel it go firm. Remember that accumilator steps up the pressure so you don't have to press so hard on the pedal on a diesel pressure plate so it won't necessarily feel that firm when operating properly. If you are not convinced, slacken the inlet pipe to the accumilator and get somebody to press the pedal until you have tightened it again. Then do the same on the outlet and then the slave cylinder. You can sometimes get better results by just opening the slave cylinder bleed nipple and watching air free fluid run out by gravity.

Keep in mind that they are all notchy (you can test it with the engine off) and now that you have bled it you are watching twice as hard!!!
