Wanted: Standard 16" Alloy Wheel

I took the wheel covers off for a change of look, only to find one of the front wheels has had its edge ground away for over a third of its circumference. It's too damaged for ChipsAway to refurb. If anyone has replaced their rims and still has the old ones taking up space, I'm in the market for one. I presume there is only one colour, but just in case, mine are a kind of dark grey.

Chips Away only do touch ups, have you tried a proper wheel refurbisher ?

My thinking was that by the time I've paid for someone to weld new material on it, reshape it, sand it & spray it, I might as well have bought a new one - as it's just a bog standard wheel rather than an expensive aftermarket replacement.

Someone's breaking a 2008 Prius on eBay at the moment so I've fired off a message asking for a price for a wheel.

Breaking a 3 year old car??? Gotta be a write off I would think?

The proper refurbishers usually machine it down and repaint it for around half the price of a new one. Although if it really is bad and needs much material welding on I'd consider scrapping it and have the suspension geometry checked.

On eBay last year there was a place near Blackpool that did a full set of refurbished Gen 2 Prius wheels for £250, in exchange for your old ones, including swapping the tyres over.

Is it like this one on eBay - item no 110676328184 ?

It's a similar colour and style, but mine has 5 studs. I think that one is for a gen 1 Prius.

Yes - I can't find the listing now but there was a photo showing front offside collision damage and all airbags deployed. Looked like it had 3 undamaged wheels.

Very interesting, I think I've found it: http://www.pxwheels.com/Store/wheel.php?id=402

I might well go for that as there is the odd paint chip on the other three wheels as well. My folks live in Manchester so I could always pop over to Blackpool when I'm next up visiting them.

Yes, that's the one, we were considering them for SWMBO's Gen 2 as some of hers are flaky, but she decided not to bother as they are not bad enough yet
