Isolating The Alarm

Can anyone advise how to lock the car but leave the alarm switched off?

I'm off to the UK in a couple of days time and have just had an email from Brittany Ferries saying that car alarms must be switched off, presumably so that if the ferry starts rolling a bit they don't have hundreds of car alarms going off. This item is not covered in the handbook pdfs sent by anchorman.

It's a 2011 oil burner if that makes any odds.

Just a guess: lock the doors with the key?

Lee...await confirmation, but I'm sure I have read that you do a third press of the LOCK button, within 5 seconds of the second press, and that lets you isolate interior but still lock car. This aimed at the people who leave their dogs in cars, to which I will make no further comment....

CAN ANYONE CONFIRM, OR IS IT JUST ME SHOCKING TIGHT....AGAIN ?

Not sure about a third press of the LOCK button but do you have a small rectangular button with a car symbol and 'off' moulded into it in the light console above the driver mirror? If so this is the 'INTRUSION SENSOR CANCELLING SWITCH'

It can be used for prevention of false alarms triggered by high winds, high pressure car washes, when transporting by car carrier, and Ferry too I expect.

Instructions from my handbook as follows:-

To cancel the intrusion sensor:

1 Push the switch on the overhead console - the security indicator light will flash rapidly for 5 minutes.

2 Set the theft deterrent system [lock the car as normal] while the indicator light is flashing.

The intrusion sensor is deactivated as long as the system is armed [i guess this means that the system re-sets when the car is next unlocked]

Hope that helps

I forgot to mention in last post: I think, if you do what Kev is suggesting I think it sets off the panic alarm.........

I tried that one first ashpole, all it does is locks the driver's door :(

No idea if the alarm is on or off though, the red light (above the climate controls) flashes as soon as you take the key out.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Hi Davrav, nope, there's only a switch for the interior light (the normal On-Off-Door thing) and a little grill which I think is the microphone, , have had a good look around the interior but there's no unaccounted for switches.

Nope, not on mine first press locks the doors, second and third make a slight (sounds like a relay) clack but nothing happens, certyainly no panic alarm.

I can lock the car from inside by pressing the button on the armrest, then get out by opening the drivers door as normal, I can then push the red button over with the outside door handle pulled out, closing the door and releasing the external handle leaves all doors locked but the red light still flashes and I'm not sure how to test if the alarm is deactivated, I've tried shaking the car but the alarm doesn't go off no matter how it's been locked :(

Oh well let's just hope for a calm crossing :)

Can't wait for Sunday night though - the start of a (guessing) 7000km trip in 3 weeks - and hoping I don't meet that Scottish policeman again who would not believe we don't have driving licence counterparts, I don't want to sit in the back of his police car again :(
