Carina E 1995 1.6 4Afe Lambda Sensor Problems

Hi all

First post here!

I have a 1995 1.6 litre 4AFe Carina E with just over 140k on the clock. Been running like a dream for years and years but just now the engine light has come on.

2 questions

1) How do I do the blink test to get the code for the fault? I know you link 2 terminals and then watch the orange ECU light in the dash but can someone tell me exactly how I do this as in will someone else need to make the link while I watch? What kind of wire will do for the connection? etc..

2) I'm told it's always the lambda sensor that's at fault. Called the dealers and was told the part number for my car is 89463-29045. The best price I've been quoted for a new one is €280 but the dealer told me he can't take it back if it's not the right one, hence he has thrown in a €70 reduction. I was all set to make the purchase but then checked the part number of the one that's already in it and it's different 89463-20080. Called the dealer back and he said he had "no idea" why the part number would be different. I'm not gonna buy the one he has until I have this cleared up lest I end up with a €280 piece of junk. Can anyone tell me why these would be different? Could I have a potential problem with the new one?

Thanks for your advice guys

Hi i do know that with the 1.8 Carina e the manual and auto models these sensors have different part numbers, so most likely different too on the 1.6 models alike.

Not sure if the Lamda sensors for both engine sizes are interchangable but auto and manual it would seem are not quite the same as the ecu's could be mapped different Hope that helps
