Prius Sat Nav Question

Hi,

My Father in law has recently bought a Toyota Prius saloon(2001). He noticed that it has a Map/Destination button on the dashboard and wondered if he could get the sat nav working. If he presses the Map/Destination button he gets a message saying "the external system is not connected" I wondered if anybody had come across this before? Does it require a Maps cd etc??

I suspect that you have a Gen1 Prius?

It could be that the particular model you have did not have the SatNav system installed, but the head unit was the same as a model that did have it.

The car has been out of production for some years now so I feel that only a replacement head unit would solve the problem if you are able to get one to fit.

I'm also not familiar with the 2001 model, but my 2008 model has a unit under the passenger's seat with a DVD drive. Check to see if yours has one and see if all of the cables are seated properly.

I have done some research on the internet and it appears that sat nav was not an option on the Prius as early as 2001. I have also checked under the passenger seat and in the boot etc. to see if a DVD player had been fitted, but can't find anything:-(
