Auris D-Cat Vibration

Hi everyone,

I have a strange problem with my 2007 Auris D-CAT. From approx. 55 to 65 mph (~90-110 kmh) I hear a vibrating sound coming from under car, and I also feel it on the pedals and the car's floor. I think it's not in connection with the engine, since it continues when the car is put in neutral gear, and just rolls free.

My first suspect was the plastic cover under the car, which was broken. I removed it, but the problem remained.

What can it be? Wheel bearings, maybe brakes...?

It's very annoying.

Anyone encountered this kinda problem before?

Thanks in advance,

MT

Have you recently had new tyres?

Your wheels might be balanced incorrectly, or lost a wheel weight.

Might be an idea to look for any signs of missing wheel weights.

The car does the same thing with the 17" factory alloys with ContiSportcontact 3 tyres, and with the winter ones (16" alloys with Pirelli Sottozero 2) too. Different rims, different tyres, same vibration...

I think the problem is elsewhere.

Does it do it in any gear at the same speed?

And it stops at 65mph + ?

Yes, in any gear where it can reach this speed. And also in neutral.

Approx. at 65 mph, yeah. At normal highway speed 80-85 mph or above (130+ kmh) there's no more vibration.

The car has 72000 miles (115.000 km) btw.

My car is doing this (2008 Auris SR 2.0 D-4D) and it only has 19,000 on the clock. I recently swapped front rear tyres since there was more tread on the rear.. they are on the original Michleins that have been on the car since day one.. The noise is almost instant from 20mph onwards.. leaning in to right or left makes no difference.. it all started after the tyre switch.

Any Ideas? :unsure::huh:
