Been toying with the idea since buying the T180 so today when I was at Mr T getting some warranty work done (chirping birds removed from under the bonnet) I ordered the following:

Lindop Power upgrade/chip kit & side steps.

Can't wait to get them fitted (getting done on 14th May) - particularly the chip kit - will post an update once all is done

Back you will not look when that Chip Kit goes in....it's pure dead good. The side steps will also keep the Welsh coal mines off your doors ....

Was there a very sorta dishevelled looking Parts Mgr. muttering words about a commission cheque to go to Glasgowland....?

How much does the chip load the insurance, please?

Absolutely no idea but I'm sure some one on here will be able to answer

Everyone's circumstances are different.

Your insurance company may not cover it, or they may not be bothered.

You might have points or convictions that could increase the cost.

You may get free cover because of your age or many years of accident free driving.

Ultimately, you need to speak to your own insurance company and see what they can do for YOU

When i got my Audi 'chipped', my insurance company refused to cover me. In fact, when i eventually found a compay that would, my premium almost doubled! :censor:

You should always check you insurance company before doing any modification, it could save a lot of hassle.

TBH the insurance hike isn't much and it was the same story for my S2000 when I added a K&N CAI kit, a high performance lightweight exhaust manifold, decat pipe & lightweight high flow titanium exhuast - all of it added just over 20bhp which doesn't sound a lot but you need to remember that the car is very light - anyway my insurance went up by just over £40 per year.

I've answered this many many times, about £50 a year, some won't cover, some don,t charge at all, and a lot of folk do not tell them, Go on a comparison site, when you get to the "is vehicle modified part" tick the modded ECU box if asked tick 20% increase box, and see what you get  alternately don't tell them  because no one will convince me that anyone will ever know  Stew

PS it can be removed in minutes should you wish to for servicing etc, I have never bothered it was supplied + fitted by Lindop + they service my Rav so why would i remove it?

The problem will come stewy when somebody piles into an oak tree that came out of nowhere and is too busy picking bits of bark and broken glass out of their top gum to even think about prizing the remains of the bonnet open to recover the chip from the coctail of broken engine, boiling coolant and oil. A little tup up the back of the car in front will jam the bonnet shut at the best of times. Any insurance assessor worth his chips will make that the first thing to check when he is trying to wriggle out of coughing any claim money. I personally would never fit one without declaring it.

Sorry Anchs seem to be disagreeing with you a lot, I have spoken to many insurance assesors who are not always employed directly by your insurance, how often does anyone ever see a real person fron their insurance these days? It took me a couple of days to find my "chip" and i knew i had one, I once had a fatality in one of my cabs, my driver had a stroke at the wheel, he rolled my cab over with passengers in the back, they were relatively unhurt, he died 1 week later I was there when both the police + insurance inspected my vehicle, they checked as best they could the tyres, brakes and mainly MOT (safety) stuff and obviously the insurance estimated the damage (total write off) the insurance would not pay out before a coroners report 8wks later, I could write a book on this event and the insurance + financial consequences of it..of course you must notify your insurance of all mods, Does that include using V,Power fuel, upgraded bulbs etc I have said many times unless your car is showing signs of mods K+N stickers etc why would they look, I took my car into a local MrT for my ECU upgrade the technician was not aware my car was "chipped" and i assume he is familiar with ravs  My insurance do know about mine and it is correct that you tell them  Stew

I agre with Stew on this one - many years ago when the Renualt 5 GT Turbo was in it's heyday I had one which I modified to hell & back & didn't decalre any thing to my insurance - stupid I know but at the time the insurance would have ended up costing more than the car. Anyway, I had an electrical fire which these hot french machines were prone to which resulted in me making an insurance claim. At this point I panicked as you could see by just looking at the car that it was modified before you even lifted the bonnet. What could I do.......it was a bit late in the day now to annouce by the way............. so I just sat tight & said nothing. The insurance assessor came out reviewed the damage & authorised the claim. I never heard any thing off my insurance company in relation to the, bigger wheels, spoilers, sierra cosworth bonnet vents, upgraded turbo & intercooler, braided hoses, etc, that were clearly visable every where!!

I am not saying that it is right not to declare mods, I have for my Honda as stated in a previous post and have every time I have modified a car since the above referenced experience which I put down to a lucky escape, however it did highlight the fact that as Stew has mentioned " how often does anyone ever see a real person fron their insurance these days?"

I think it's fair to say that, with the amount of insurance fraud, the possibility of a closer inspection of vehichles post incident will be far more likely in the future

I agree with your statement Dave, I know I got lucky and as mentioned above have always decalred mods since - I don't fancy having an accident, writing off our motor that was nearly £30k new and the insurance not pay out because I didn't declare a mod which would add an extra £50 or so on my insurance.

Just as a quick off topic, last line of your first paragraph the word INTERCOOLER has formed a link to an eBay site, Also in my post I originally used the word Headlights which also formed a link (not by me) to an eBay site is this something that should happen  Stew.. Sorry having clicked on those links they have now dissapeared

I hadn't noticed that it had formed a link and I had not inserted one so not sure what is going on there.

Back on topic - I am looking forward to getting my new bits
