Sitting In A Prius

i was as usuel having a !Removed! outside sainsburys while wating for the wife while she spent my pension.saw a chap standing next to a prius,so i got talking to him about it.its not his own but his firms.did not check year or model, but it does not have latest 1.8 engine.

i told him i nearly got one but finances dictated otherwise, plus was not sure the small number of miles i now do per year would warrant it.what effect sometimes standing for a couple of weeks several times a year would have on the power pack.

he let me sit in his car, liked the display just below the screen telling you whats going on.

read on hear of the foot parking brake,so now know were it is.he said it took some getting used to.he then opened the bonnet for me to have look.did not know what what most of it was,but then neither did he .the screen wash bottle and coolant expansion tank very easy to see and get at.

i think there are people who buy them as much for the technology as for anything else.

and to be honest thats what makes me interested in one.

well maybe one day,if i can get the wife to use lidl instead of sainsburys.

and give up the !Removed!.

Sounds like the Gen2...

The second generation Prius was a 1.5, it sounds more like third gen one to me.

He said it did NOT have the 1.8 engine.....

The Gen2 t-spirit had the satnav, but believe they all had the screen....

 No matter!

I can't remember whether all grades of the gen2 had the screen or not, I know that only the t-spirit had the satnav, but I have a feeling it was an option on the T4.

I forgot mention he started it up if thats the right expression, just the elec motor running. and the sat nav screen was showing a route.did not know the elec motor could run when stationary.but due to the wife butting in did not have much chance for me to ask further questions.by the way he is/was a toc member he asked advice about a I-pod fitting.

a very nice man,are all prius owners like that.

I had a very similar experience when I first started taking an interest in Priuses:

 the elec motor wasn't running! If you push the power button once it's the equivalent of aux. Everything like radio/cd, screen, satnav works, but you can't move the car. You have to push the button again with your foot on the brake to be able to move the car and even then the engine may or may not start! That depends on how heavily you push the loud pedal.

As for us Prius drivers being nice guys, of course we are :yahoo: But then I'm biased

Mmmm could have been the a/c? The engine doesn't have to run for that on the Prius....
