Oil Indicator Light On 1997 2.0 Petrol

Hey,

I have an old 1997 Toyota Avensis 2L Estate.

The oil level indicator is coming on, but only when the car is up to running temperature. For short journeys it won't come on at all. I have changed the oil and replaced the filter and have regularly checked the oil level.

Before I start taking things apart does anyone have any ideas??

I would appreciate any help.

Sounds like your lubrication system is struggling to amintain pressure when the oil is hot & therefore thin. Could be your oil pump is on the way out, could be a fault elsewhere in the system. If you aren't losing oil and are using the correct grade of oil I would suspect the oil pump is at fault. Mind you there may be a pressure releive valve in there somewhere that is dumping oil pressure when hot.

sorry to waffle but it could be a number of causes. Needs looked at though. Good luck.

Hi

If its your oil level warning light, Then it might be worth a look at

the wiring to the sensor in the sump, I think its tight at the harness

side of the wiring at the bottom of the radiator,

Hope this helps
