Hi ya,

I have recently received my lil 1.0l IQ2 baby and have only filled it up 3 times but have wondered how accurate the trip computer is. For the current fill up i have hit an AVG of 66.7MPG, i hadnt found this metric for the previous 2 fill ups so i cant compare it other than i hit 60.1MPG prior to filling up for number 3. Cleverly it reset the counter once i started the car up after i started it!

How accurate have others found this reading?

You have to put in 'at least 10 litres of fuel' for the computer to give you that average since the last time you put in fuel.

If you only put in 9 litres (2 gallons almost) it doesnt happen.

Then setting off gently for the first few miles after fueling gives a totally unrealistic MPG reading.

(thats just as expected tho.)

The miles covered is very accurate IME in an iQ,

i dont know if its exactly the same on an iQ2 with the 'very slightly' bigger size 'rolling radius' of tyres,

(i imagine that Toyota have that covered, or do they??. Does anyone know if they just count it as near enough

as to make no difference,

or is there some different part on a 1Q & iQ2/3 ?

how do people who go for even slightly larger 'rolling radius' tyres get on with the cars computer?)

http://www.onlineconversion.com/tire_size_conversion.htm

but the average MPH is strange as to how it is done,

other computers can be average time since journey started & then discount time stopped.

As to the average per tankfull, 'AVERAGE MPG',

the computer & filling to the top at one pump & again at the same pump the next time,

can give very different results IME.

PS

66.7 MPG is a Average MPG that an iQ's computer seems to like showing even when thats not whats its achieved.

Check out my MPG on here.. I work it out by brimming and then also put my trip reading on there as well...

Thank You for posting this info, very interesting - I've had a thought............looking at your results 50.3 mpg (61.5 on display) 50.3 uk gallons = 60.4 us gallons. Looks like we all have USA fuel computers!

somehow dont think so,

but someone better at maths or computers will correct me.

say you go '226 miles' in an iQ & you use 5 'imperial gallons', you have then done 45.2 imperial mpg.

(4.54 litres & a bitty per gallon = 22.7 litres for 5 gallons)

if you go '226 miles' in an iQ & you use 6 'US gallons', you have then done 37.6 US mpg.

A US Gallon is only 3.79 litres.

which is why it took 6 gallons to do the same journey.

(22.7 litres = 6 US Gallons.)

You used the same amount of fuel on both trips & got the same economy..

No you need to click fuelly over to UK from US in the top left. Then you will see its a lot closer.

Last night 72 mpg as near as damn it.

Stopped in Perth around 1am & filled up with Tesco 95 RON at the all night card pump,

& decided to try for as many MPG as poss. to get home. (i didnt brim it, wish i had now)

it was 12 degrees celcius last night.

Through Perth to Forfar via Coupar Angus was/is 35 miles.

Not a single vehicle was moving in either direction.

Boringly stuck to watching the 'instant MPG' & kept it at 3-4 blocks as a max on the slide,

picked up to 50 mph+ out the town OK

& traveled at around the 50-55 mph all the way apart from 4 short stints of 30mpg in towns.

(never gave much throttle so the blocks never went above 4 more than a couple of climbs & the CVT picks up speed just fine.)

Was showing AVG 73.3 after climbing the last bit home.

Just went

& put in petrol & could not squeeze in 3 litres after the 36 miles.

Amazing from a 1.0 multidrive with 6000 miles on the clock from new 9 weeks ago.

(the average since new is only 48mpg, but that my fault not the cars.)

No more than 3 litres...working it on 3 litres gives you 54mpg for that trip...

I just had 58.7 on trip and actually did 60.8...that was over 341 miles...mostly dual carriageway, would have been more but the wind was up for the last 40 miles and I was in a hurry to get home.

So was the 72 mpg accurate or not? That's pretty damn impressive if it is :)

Tricky to know since you didn't brim it so might have put in more fuel than you used afterward...

"could not squeeze in 3 litres"

Yes the 72 mpg or more was right for that run.

(the computer isnt right tho, near enough as to not matter IMO)

2 litres was enough petrol to put in for the 36 miles.

Its just i decided to fill it to the brim & till i could see the petrol, that was 2.8 litres.

Did it again last night colder night, brim to brim.

2.1 liters for 34 miles.

Thats after blasting up the road for a couple of hundred miles (only doing 52 mpg actual not computer)

& then on an empty road,

chilling on a nice moonlight night.

.

.

.

Love the iQ,

but its getting to be a pain south of Perth during daytime hours.

Worst vehicle i have ever experienced for tailgaters if you dare to go

'only a little above the speed limit' & not fast enough for their likeing.

Not me being paranoid,

i drive lots of different vehicles & nip along more often than not,

seems if you want to go through the route with Average Speed Cameras between Kilmarnock, Girvan, Stranraer.

you had better drive faster than normal in a iQ

or they hate you.

(pull away & leave them behind & make space,

& it seems to be a bigger problem with many drivers than it is doing the same in any other vehicle.)

If it wasnt so comfortable for the miles i am doing,

i would go back to driving something else that annoys people less.
