Well after a visit by a ' technician ' this morning, confirming my Rav4's troubles,i had a 6 hour wait ( at home and safe) for a low loader to arrive to take Rav4 to colchester toyota.

I chased them (the AA) with a polite phone call at about 4.30,was told ' one was on its way '

HA HA HA,.......about 15mins later another technicians van arrived to ' tow ' my rav4

As soon i answered the front door,he looked at me,i looked at him,we both shrugged our shoulders..in disbelief.

Background staff havn't got a clue

he said ' i can tow your Rav4 but no more than 20mph '.....if you wish....i declined, just in case it made things worse.

So he took me to collect a courtesy car,i thought a little corsa or fiesta will do fine, but no.....ive been given a ............

BLOOMIN JAGUAR XF...with all the bells & whistles......,all i needed was a run around  i'm almost scared to drive it :o

And the AA are to collect my Rav first thing in the morning.......its crazy

Result!!!!

But is it any good off road?

HA haaaaaaaaa,

Well driving an auto is a little different,no key to start it,just foot on brake, press ' engine start '......turn the ' self rising knob ' into drive......AND FLOOR IT :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Actually,it feels no different to any new toyota,..light,quick,and quite tinny....not that good a quality

The interior is a little sumptous......but like Mr Clarkson says......its a JAAAAAAAAG

Ive got no spare wheel either, and very scared of marking it :o

You`ll never want to drive a manual again, its just so easy to drive with an auto box.

Yes don`t scratch it, or i`ll presume you will foot the bill unless you took out extra cover they sometimes offer you.

You are getting it all wrong, mate. The correct attitude to loan/rental cars is :

What's this button do? ... Click.

How about this one... Click

How about both together..clickclick

How about at speed...

Rinse repeat...

Hello, aa? You'll never believe what happened... :)

Seriuously, I wouldn't complain... Most i usually get is a yaris.

Tinny as in Ford build quality I presume, when you shut the door, sounds tinny like a ford maybe?

My sister has a 2005 Volvo S40, basicaly a Ford focus in disguise, and although the car looks bulky and well built, it`s not. When you shut the door its sounds tinny, not like a Toyota door shut or VW.

I belive the Jags are Ford Mondeos with a fancy dress are they not?

I think You are referring to the X type?? Which was basically a Mondeo in fancy drawers .. The XF shares NO components whatsoever with any Ford and as for tinny ?? Well You have obviously never been in one ?? I have had Audi's over the last ten Years or so. Mostly A6s and never thought I would have another Jag until the XF came out that is...

The door shut on Our Rav is like a bean tin in comparison to the Jag and that sadly is a fact but then that's Jap cars ? Or am I falling for the Stereotype ???

My 4.2 Rav4 has a nice vw / audi type shut, apart from the tailgate which sounds like its going to fall off when shut, due to the spare wheel on the back rattling, do you have one of these by the way  cant comment about the 4.3`s but if the engines are anything to go by....

Yes maybe I refere to the X type, I thought they were all mondeos underneath?

Can`t comment of the XF as never even seen one never mine shut its door. Is this a Ford scorpion in disguise then? ;)

I agree I find the Rav a little in the tinny side, especially when you close the boot. It just doesn't sound right. I'll go an wash my mouth out...

Ford have no interest of ownership of Jaguar at all now !! Thank God !! It was the X type that had all the Mondeo underpinnings. The XF has no Ford parts whatsoever .......

here we go again, ford knocking.yes ford were cheaply built years ago and toyota were quality built.

but things have changed around, toyota have gone down in there build quality using cheap and nasty trim.were once they had that soiid feel, they are now flimsy, using cheap and nasty trim.where ford now use acceptable trim.

when i sold my mondeo st and got my auris i did not notice how poor the seat materials were or how the cabin plastic trim scratched just by looking at it.

while at a garden centre i saw a mondeo st pull into the carpark ,i thought it may be my old car,but it was not.got talking to the owner, and had a look inside.the finish was great.the seat material is about three times thicker than my auris, the owner who was retired said it was the best car he had ever had,and if he won the the euro lottery he would not change it.there is plenty of people who find fault with ford but these days totota owners are in no position to do so.yes they can quote problems that they have had with fords, but look at the many common problems toyota owners get.the doors on both my mondeos doors closed with a nice clunck as the auris do.

some toyota owners need to take off their rose tinted glasses.

Have to agree with Charlie Farlie here, my brother in law has an XF, I think it's got some fancy title ie Autograph ??? Can't remember.

Anyway it's a freakin awesome car, I'm sure he said it's been upped to about 290BHP and it goes like a bat out of hell.

edit, and would add that I've been a Ford fan all my life as you can see from my personal photo thumbsup.gif

I have had many Fords over the years. over 30 Transits and loads of other cars and suffered very little problems with any of them EGR valves aside !!

The XF is a well built car and is as solid as a rock !! But the Toyota is a well built car as well no mistakes !!

The XFS 3.0D S has 275 BHP and more importantly 600NM of torque... 0 TO 60 Is 5.9 and top speed is limited to 155 so You are right its no slouch !!!

To compare an XF and a Rav 4 is just daft really. One is a Luxobarge the other is a utility vehicle. Both are well screwed together but the Jag wins hands down. But then so it should !!!

Charlie.

shame jaguar spent all that money developing a car and then named it after a DAF truck (DAF XF 430 , 12 litre , 480bhp , 12 speed ZF auto box)

I`m not knocking Fords I have also owned many, cheap reliable and easy to fix, parts a readily available and cheap too.

All mine tended to rust that was the only reason I got rid and got a newer model.

Yes I agree the new Fords are very well built, and have great interiors.
