when i started my apprenticeship i was on 1/9 an hour and 48 hour week.i think 20 senior sevice were about 1/6.this was about 1951.

in 1962 you could get 4 galls of 4 star for less than £1.

what about burtons suits you could get for £2-50.

spark plugs were 5 shillings for years,no inflation on them.

lovely coinage thrupenny bit, silver sixpence, florin, half crown, farthing real money.

remember goimg around friends house and asking his mum can he come out to play.do they play these days.

wearing handdowns to school no one took any notice, all in same boat.

some families used same bath water for whole family (8) dad first.

dad had the only boiled egg,and someone if lucky got the cut off top.

PT at school, you sat in the hall and they would call out plimsole size and you whent and collected them of the teacher. afterwards they went back in the cupboard for the next class.

being !Removed! was being happy. stayed for school dinners, they were terrible, not cooked on the premisis,so were cold, meat was mostly fat, cabbage was soggy, gravy congeald.steam puddings not too bad.one day my best friend john did not eat all his dinner,so 2 teachers tried forcing it down him.what would they get for doing that these days.

When my sisters two lads started school they stayed for school dinners just because their mates did, even though they only lived a few hundred yards from the school. She went to collect them with some trepidation after their first day and enquired "what was dinner like?" The youngest asked if he could stay at school for tea! 'think her cooking has improved over the years though
