Oil Leak.

Hi all, sorry if this has been covered before somewhere. I have a MY2000 Rav4, (2000 VVTI), I have had a slight oil leak for the past few months, the leak is from the o/s/r of the engine and on closer inspection it looked like it was coming from the Timing Chain Tensioner seal, Eventually I decided to try an effective repair, after removing the PWR steering pump, I undid the tensioner, (not all the way out though) and inserted instant gasket into the seal, tightened up, replaced all the compontants and took for a jetwash, After arriving back home I have found that the oil leak is still there, no better or worse. Im just wondering if there is another componant that I should be looking for in this area of the engine that is prone to springing a leak. (the leak is most defo from the top of the engine and is not the PWR steering pump.)

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

My experience is with the previous 3SFE and then the 3SGTE so don't know the vvti so well.

If you search other sections, many of them also use the 2 litre vvti.

Where in Scotland are you as I have a specialist garage in Motherwell that I use all the time as they specialise in Jap cars and don't normally charge the earth ! If you were close to them, its worth taking a run into them to let them look which I am sure they will do if you mention Big Ian told you !!

Send me a PM if you need more details.

The earlier engines did have probs with the crankshaft seals leaking.
