hi mate

power loss possible reasons:

- engine air filter clogging;

- fuel filter clogging;

- turbo (if it is fitted);

- incorrect injection timing;

- poor injection due to worn down nozzles;

- gas pressure leak (valves; gasket etc)

- EGR valve

check with above and revert

cheers/Igor

Has your car been regularly serviced? ANd if so, by whom.?

Ther are LOTS of things that could be at fault..see above - and all we are doing is guessing..

You are most likely to have a blown head gasket - any water loss?

or a choked up EGR valve - which is easy to solve (clean it - guides on the forum).

or a choked up exhasut system - damaged/carbon build up.

Worn injectors/fuel pump /turbo are rare.

Has the fuel filter been changed? If not in the last 40k miles, it may be blocked and give a loss of power under load or high revs.

Hi,

Check the EGR valve and give it a clean also its worth taking the throttle body off as that is where the egr gasses come out and it gets blocked. If it is blocked it may not even be apparent there is a hole but have a prod around and you will find it near the bottom under the butterfly valve. The torque settings for the EGR valve and the throttle body are 20nm. If its not that or the air filter or fuel filter check the turbo, i doubt its the injectors because they either work or they don't unless its an intermitant electrical fault. Good Luck

hello again

there are so many mysteries but check with injection quality and try to shift on 4th on the same uphill spot and revert. As you know we can only guess what goes wrong, but basing on the millage covered -- I presume it is right time to inspect injectors and calibrate them on the fuel stand. Just send us an up-dates with your investigations. Cheers/Igor

Check your radiator has all its fins and they have not corroded away.. which could account for overheating.

It could be : a faulty water pump (unlikely), a corroded cooling system (any rust in coolant?) , a slipping drive belt (you would hear it squeal.. does it when the engine starts?), or a failing head gasket.. (if so, a coolant test should show it).

Hi Fezi,

I have the exact same problem, Just got ripped off and had to replace the head Gasket and water pump. Had a full service also but not well down on power above 3000rpm especially up hills. Did you find the problem in the end?
