Hi guys, i'm new here and have just got my rav4 which i totally love.

My question is, the vehicle is 2002 and has a built in sat nav, as you could imagine the roads have changed a fair bit in 9 years so is it possible to somehow update this?

Thank you in advance.

With a name such as yours why on earth do you need SATNAV :unsure:

Anyway, a warm welcome to the club :thumbsup:

Someone with 'the knowledge' will be along at some stage and will be able to advise you accordingly :thumbsup:

@Davrav

Thanks for the welcome :)

@jedi134

I don't pick the car up until next week (it getting oxygen sensor replaced) but it's not a full screen, the actual unit is a tape deck :eek: with a cd changer under the seat, the sat nav screen is just a small little display above all the buttons.

Sorry i can't be more precise, i probably should have waited to post this but you know whats it like when you get a new car the excitement took over me

Is it actually possible to update these then? Or is it a case of changing the whole head unit.

Thanks

Hi mystic,

That looks like the same radio as mine and so sorry but that does not have satnav function.

But you will find you have a cracking set of wheels when you get it :yahoo::yahoo:

Hi crofter

It does have sat nav, i gave it a quick test, although i need to learn how to use, it did take me on my test drive despite not knowing how the roads changed.

You sure yours doesn't have a sat nav you havn't found yet or something? Maybe its like an optional thing only some have, but all the head units of that year are the same? Not sure.

Thanks for your reply.

If you say that yours has satnav then I apologise unreservedly,I can only say in my defence that there is no mention in my handbook of that,and that mine is a 2001 reg.

@jedi134

Glad about that, obviously without full screen its not amazing but it does give you an arrow and road name, also its pretty clear to read. It should get you out of trouble atleast. Any idea where i can get these disks from? A quick look on eBay showed prices around £500!?? surely that too expensive, i was expecting more like £20.

@crofter

no need to apologize, my car is 2002, maybe they didn't have sat nav till then.

Thanks for the replies.

Hi guys...

A couple of my old Avensis (1999, 2002 and 2005) had similar type satnavs.... The cd drive will be either under the front passenger seat or in the boot somewhere, it is updateable, talk to your local Mr T and he will sell you an updated cd/dvd. Not sure how up to date that will be though, the system has probably changed by now!

Hope this helps a bit

:thumbsup:

Thank for your reply. Not to sound too stupid but 'Mr T' is a toyota dealer right? :unsure:

The nav box (under seat or wherever) model will probably be something like TNS200, TNS300 or TNS310.

Those disk come up on eBay from time to time, which might be a cheaper option.

Obviously need to wait until you have the vehicle to determine which unit it is.
