First Impressions

Despite first driving a gen 3 in June 2009 when Toyota GB brought it to my home to drive it I've resisted getting one until now due to finances and a raft of other things. So, I've just bought a 60 plate Prius TS in pearl white with Style Pack, boot protector and 20% tints. Good price too considering it was from Mr T. My current car (until yesterday) was a gen 2 Prius TS that I'd driven for 99,000 miles! With the gen 3 I love the big solid feel of the thing (it feels massive after the gen 2) and the extra toys like the HUD and bluetooth music streaming from my iPhone and iPad. Infact, I'm really impressed with this and see no reason whatsoever to use the Gracenote HDD system. Unlike, the gen 2, when I was using the aux in 3.5mm jack to play iPhone tracks with little effect the bluetooth streaming is great and sounds very good indeed. The major issue I see with the car is the very brittle plastics which seems to mark very easily :(. Everything else is deffo a major step up from the gen 2 particularly the looks.

Finally, just need to consider any, minor, mods. So far it's just the tints and a gold TRD oil filler cap left over from my blingy Celica :). Mmmm, black wheels on a white Prius would look sweet.

Edit: my local centre is well aware it's 0w20 oil only in a gen 3. He even changed both number plates FOC as they had laminated slightly around the screw heads. My centre, RMB Northallerton, are very good. I've been going for years.

Glad you are enjoying the car. Our new Gen 3 is going well and we are well pleased. If you have not got side moldings I would get them. Happy motoring.

I too have been really impressed with the bluetooth audio streaming. In fact I am really pleased with the whole audio package and find the sound quality easily on par with the factory fit system I had in my Jag.

I have no complains on the bluetooth also, it works like a dream, and the people I talk to on the system hardly believes that I'm using bluetooth since the audio quality is brilliant.

I have to try the Ipad streaming, since even with 6 cd changer I get bored with the same discs, and must be easier to load all the music on the ipad instead.

Happy motoring :)

Hi, I am glad you are enjoying your new car and welcome your comments on what improvements it offers over the Gen 2 that I have  .

I play an Ipod (not iPhone) via the Aux input and the sound is good but I can only see the track names etc on the Ipod - which I find a nuisance. With bluetooth streaming do you see the tracks etc somewhere?

Cheers,

David

Yes you do onscreen. You can even pause a track using the screen controls if you like.

I don't see anything other than what i can see on the iPhone. The car just shows an icon depicting music transfer from device to car but, yes, I can change tracks and adjust the volume from the steering wheel. David, do you see the track details on the car?

Cheers

Interesting! I am using a Windows phone (HTC HD2) and evidently I can see more detail that you get from an iPhone streaming via bluetooth. Typical Apple I guess :P

RIM products don't display anything either. Thanks, but I'll keep my iPhone 4. B)

I suspect you didn't mean me with your question but I wouldn't want to ignore you!

I have a Gen 2 Prius and I can adjust volume from the steering wheel but nothing else. No track details on the car unfortunately.

Thats one up for Microsoft on Blackberry too then I guess! That's why I stick with MS products. They are a bit hit and miss at times requiring the odd re-boot but they do more that competing product lines and that's what counts as far as I am concerned.
