P0045 Dtc Code

Hi all.

Further to my problems encountered whilst trying to retrofit cruise control, and the car then not starting, I have run the elm327 scanner on it and now have a permanent p0045 code.

Searching internet shows the most common reason, on other cars, is turbo open circuit. Is that what this means on my Avensis?

Any ideas?

All i can find is:

Turbocharger/Supercharger boost control "A" circuit/open

Have you reset the ECU to see if this removes the fault?

Hi. Yes I have done an ecu reset. No difference. Found this on internet for a D4D land cruiser (P0045 (34) - Boost control solenoid circuit malfunction)

Where on earth is the boost control solenoid?

Have you tried taking readings of the boost as you drive to see how it behaves?

Sorry, i missed that bit.

Have you located the actuator to see if it appears wedged open?

Nope. I am a bit of a dunce as far as diesels are concerned. I have only had the car for 2 weeks. Can you enlighten me as to where the actuator and solenoid are? The only thing that I can see is a black cylinder just above the turbo with a single red/white wire coming out of it!

I'd like to be able to help, but i haven't had any cause to look for mine.

Have a Google images search for turbo actuator and see if you can identify the part in the picture to a part on your car.

There may be something obvious that could be simple to sort out.

Thks. I will have a close look tomorrow and see if I can see anything obvious!

Hi.

Found the actuator and it moves smoothly. It is purely mechanical, so it wouldn't give a P0045 code anyway.

I will have to wait until monday to have an auto electrician take a look at the car. He should have a full diagnostic reader, which may show more details. P0045 is just a generic code, so it means nothing to me!

Cheers

Have you just retro fitted cruise control?

It may not be connected, but have you tried removing the wiring and seeing if that helps?

Hi. I was trying to retro fit cruise. Yes I have disconnected it now, but the car was running fine even with it connected anyway, although it wasn't working!. Plugging it into the squib connector wouldn't have done anything because I don't have a physical connection (white wire on pin 24 of E10 on the ecu) anyway!

It's something else that is not allowing the car to start.

Hi.

Managed to get the car fixed  . I found 3 of the pins on the connector on the ecu had been "opened up". I had used the wrong sized pin when doing the con checks  . Removed the 3 female connectors, squeezed them up a bit, and hey presto, car starts! Reset eml light and fault code p0045. All ok!

Thanks for all your suggestions though. Much appreciated, and I learned a bit.

  • 2 years later...

And at the end, does retrofitted cruise control works now ?

Unfortunately the topic dates back to 2011, and the OP has not posted since May 2011 - so we may never know whether the cruise control worked or not!

There is quite a long running topic on the Auris club re fitting cruise control, which may be worth looking at.
