Engine Bay Corrosion

As you'd expect my 'new' 60 plate Prius's engine bay looks pretty clean. It's an area I like to clean almost as much as the bodywork :help: Anyway, the power control unit (big shiny thing that the cables go into) is corroded quite badly. It's superficial stuff but it looks a bit tatty given the rest of the bay looks great. Anyone else have similar?

Cheers

P

Edit: I should add that I've tried cleaning the top of the unit with metal polish but it won't budge. It looks like badly corroded aluminium.

Hi My sept 09 Gen 3 has kept very clean in the engine bay certainly no sign of corrosion on the cover where you show it, could something have been spilt on it as a nearly new car can you not take it back to Toyota and get the cover replaced as it can only get worse.

Thanks for that, Ian. I was thinking much the same as, not only is the cover heavily corroded but so are the adjoining bolts.

C'mon everyone else. Tell me your panel is corrosion free.

No corrosion here also, but if I had that after just 3 weeks, then there would be something wrong.

You are not getting some electric shock or anything from the cover? It looks to me like there is some sort of short circuiting going on, and that with the salt in the air makes it corrode fast.?

Hi Habu,

My Prius is also on a 60 plate and I also have the same corrosion on that cover as well, I just thought that maybe a mechanic spilt something on it during a service, but if more people have this problem it could be a bit more serious. I have also tried to clean it off but no luck there. Have you had any more thoughts as to what it might be due to ?

Regards,

Dave.

No idea at the mo' although I'm going to see my local Centre tomorrow afternoon. My corrosion on the cover is really bad and includes all the corresponding bolts plus the metal mesh on the ends of the cables just before they go into the unit plus there was a lot of debris on the black clamp.
