Vent Control Bulb Replacement

I have a 2002 (previous shape) Avensis and noticed last night that one of the two bulbs for the rotary vent control (under the radio unit) has blown. How do I get to it to replace it? I don't just want to try to yank the rotary control knob off and damage it. Any help would be very gratefully received.
