Toyota Avensis Indicator Problems

Hi i have a toyota avensis se (2000) the indicator stalk ( the thing you pull to make the indicator work) wont let me turn left it just clicks very fast like (click click click) it is very annoying since i have no choice but to stick my hand out of the window to indicate . I can get hold of a indicator stalk but i dont wont to pay the hefty prices of labour how do i install it please help.

Hi.

Sounds like you just have an indicator bulb gone.

Yeah its a bulb, i would try it in the on position get out of the car and check which light bulb is not flashing.

I had the same problem and it was the contacts in the stalk mechanism.

before you do anything, put the hazards on then check that all the bulbs are working. If they are then it is the contacts in the stalk mechanism.

What I did was removed the covers around the steering column, unplug the the connectors. Remove the 2 screws hold the stalk and remove.

Now observe the stalk to see how is put together, then carefully unscrew the unit. Make a note or take pictures as you dismnantle the stalk. You will get to the copper contacts.

I cleaned and reshaped the contacts. Electrical contact grease is useful too.

Then reassemble and test.

The other option is to get a stalk from the breakers, making sure stalk has the same functions as yours.
