2011 Avensis Multi Function Display Reset Options

Hi just trying to figure out my new 2.2 Diesel Avensis TR tourer 2011 manual. The manual says that the trip computer displays "AVE SPEED" and "ELAPSED TIME" can be reset by holding the DISP button or zeros automatically (like my previous car (Alfa Romeo) each time you re-start the engine for a new trip. I can reset using the manual method, by holding the DISP button, but it never seems to reset automatically on engine start. I can live happily with the manual method if this is the only option, but just curious as to whether I'd missed an option or setting somewhere, Thanks

Yes, it is only manually resetable I am afraid, which can be a bit of a drag.

I know the Mercedes range resets and the begining of the day and holds it's memory for a few hours so could easily work out a days worth of driving.

Perhaps its a very generic manual then. there is lots of "mays" "mights" and "some models" in it.
