P0136 - Covered By Warranty?

Hi all

I bought a 2nd hand 56 plate Avensis 2.0 VVT-i D4 petrol from the local Dealership back in Feb. It came with a 1 year warranty.

We've been noticing practically since we got it that mpg isn't the best but hadn't gotten around to filling the tank fully to see what we'd get from a full tank. I'd say from half a tank we'd probably get 15-165 miles if we're lucky. I had the Engine Management Light come on on the way home from work and panicked as the wife has 2 weeks of pregnancy left!

Luckily, I bought an OBD2 bluetooth adaptor a while back but haven't got around to using it - until now that is! The code is came back with was the P0136 fault code. I understand this to be a faulty o2 sensor and could also explain the poor MPG - is that correct? My questions are:

1) Could dodgy fuel cause this - don't laugh if not - I'm not the most knowledgable with cars!

2) If it is a dodgy sensor, will this be covered by the warranty? I don't want the dealership pulling a fast one.

Thanks in advance

Hi mate, yes it is possible dodgy fuel can cause it maybe due to water contamination as it happened to my wife's last car after filling up at a local Sainsbury, as to the warranty you will need to read the small print but it should be covered but don't mention contaminated fuel to the garage as any excuse will be all they need to knock you back.

Pete.
