some tyres are noisier than others.if you go on autoexpress tyre review amongst other test the give a score rating for tyre noise.

next year all new tyres will be marked with noise rating.which is handy.low profile tyres tend to be noisier than standard ones.my car has Continental tyres.these are fairly quiet.

As above check reviews and tests, personally I would recommend Prestivo, best tyres I have ever come across!

The Continental Eco3's I put on were noticeably quieter than the Bridgestone+Firestones that I had on previously...

I had Continental Sport Contact3s (215/45/17) on my Avensis and they were very good compared with the Dunlops & Bridgestones I had previously. Brill in the wet and the dry, cr@p in the snow though!

It depends on the car, so one model can be noisier in one car and not so noisier in another. But if you are with the Dunlop SP Sport 01, they are noisy, ALOT. The winter Continental TS830 (205/55/R16 91H) are less noisy than the summer Dunlop SPORT 01's (205/55/R16 91V) (personal experiance on the Auris 2.0 d4d). Unfortunately I'm not sure what tyres would be less noisy, but if you take to acount that the winter Continental TS830 are quieter you could assume that the Continental PremiumContact(2) could by quieter too (PremiumContact, are a bit more expencive than the Sport 01 too).

Exactly the same tires you mentioned ( Dunlop SPORT 01's (205/55/R16 91V) are fitted on all Auris from the factory in sweden ! Very unfortunate ...

Couldn't agree more, the Dunlop's are a horrible tyre for road noise.

In fairness, they do last a long time, but the grip isn't that great. I changed mine for Bridgestone S001 a few weeks ago, and they are a much quieter tyre, and grip seems improved too.

But they are a premuim tyre so they should be better.

There are 3 test for the Dunlop SP 01, with the 205/55/R16 V index, but I could find the full data for only the ADAC test.

Adac 205/55/R16 V (03/2004))

You can not compare the values from this old test to the values from the newer ones. Mainly because the test cars, used to test the tyres, are pretty different.
