12R Timing Marks

Hello, Wondering if anyone can help. There are three notches on the crank pulley but only two shown in the manual; does this still mean TDC would be the final notch to pass the pointer, or could it be the middle one?

The engine's a 1600 12r.

Just got the engine running like a dream. Between the original Toyota manual and Haynes, we deduced that the first notch is TDC and the second is 8° BTDC not sure what third was.

Hi Jon, glad you've got it running well; I've not adjusted the timing for a while, but it's now taking a little while to start so will use your advice regarding the timing marks and have a go at it tomorrow.

The only thing these early hiaces could do with is a fifth gear, and possibly a v8, but a fifth gear would do for starters...
