Engine Air Filter Change

I just spoke to the Garage Manager of my local Toyota dealership and after explaing my symptoms: erratic revs, poor mpg and an on and off Engine Management Light, he said to check that the Engine Air Filter wasn't blocked.

Now I've searched the Net but can't find any info on how to do it. Anyone point me in the right direction? The car is a 56 Avensis 2.0 VVt-i T4 if that helps!

Hello mate, here is a picture of an air filter assembley it's for the diesel engine but they are very similar, the top cover is held on with clips, just release them carefully, lift the top cover with the flexible hose still attached and take out the old paper filter element (you will see if it's dirty) then fit the new one and make sure it's seated down properly. Refit the top cover and clips ...... job done! ;).

It really is a simples as that. Have you thought about using a K&N filter? I've found that it gives me more mpg.

Cheers for the replies! I haven't actually got a new one yet. I'm gonna check it and see what condition it's in first.

I'll give it a go tomorrow and report back.
