Transfer Contacts From Non-Compatible Phone To T-Spirit Satnav (Tns410

Hi,

I've a T-Spirit on order and looking forward to all the extra features it comes with.

One thing I'd love to be able to do is copy my Nokia E65's phonebook onto the TomTom. My phone isn't on TomTom's list of compatible devices, so is there a way to get round it?

Or, can I at least manually enter any contacts?

Hopefully someone can help.

Cheers

What model uses a Tom Tom?

My phone is not on the Tomtom list of compatible phones but I found it paired with the T Spirit's Tomtom quite easily. However I have not got it to transfer lists of contacts across as yet.

I did find that when I went to update the maps, as they advise, the voice recognition system went out. After a week of messages from Tomtom and a three and a half hour stint on the phone with them, we came to the conclusion there is only just enough space on the memory when you get it to run the stuff that's on it. It was not until I got an additional SD card and slotted it in the base that we got the voice recognition system back and the latest Western European maps working.

I must confess I have stopped messing around with it for a while but when I pluck up the courage I will have another go at the contacts list transfer.

I am sure you will enjoy the new car. It is a marked improvement on the old one and I think it is a lot quieter from the point of view of road noise.

PS You can manually enter contacts.

Thanks, Newsboy. I am glad I should be able to manually enter contacts. The manual I found online makes no mention of it, nor voice recognition for that matter.

Best start looking round for a 2GB SD card.

By the way, I've e-mailed TomTom and asked if there's a workaround for contacts so if they come back with something constructive, I'll post it here.

Thanks again.

TomTom have come back and given a workaround to create your own contacts on the TNS410:

1. Connect your device to your computer and turn it on

2. Go to My Computer and double click the removable drive 'TomTom' (on a Mac, double click on the drive on your desktop)

3. Create a new Text document

4. Rename the new text document to ‘contacts’

5. Now open this text document and create a phone book entry as follows:

Format, including the quote marks: “name of contact”,”phone number”

Example: “Tom T.”,”+31555653314”

It is not possible to add additional information, it will have to go into separate contacts, for example Dave Work, Dave Home

6. Repeat this on the next line for each phone book entry

7. Save the text document once you are done. Then copy this file into the 'contacts' folder. If it isn't there, just create a new folder and call it contacts

8. Turn off the device

9. Turn it on again and select “Mobile phone > Call > Phonebook entry” in the main menu

10. You will now see a list of phone numbers you have just entered.
