well, this is a strange one but i was under the belief that the seo was made in japan but badged under different labels depending on the area.

For example the Vauxhall Nova was (i believe) called the Opel Corsa in europe.

Either way they really are cracking little motors.

All made in Japan, just called different stuff.

i know there are toyota factories in the us which is why i was suggesting that it might come from over here. i just figured that it wouldnt make sense to offer the paseo in the japanese market because they already sell the cynos there. now i am just confused

Honda or some oter really popular car company actually makes their JDM cars in America, and USDM cars in Japan, so it's kinda hard to figure exactally where it was made, but check the door jam. Some cars have the factory where they were assembled written on them, the Seo may too.

All seo's rolled off the lot in Toyota City, Japan. Only the convertibles were modified in California.

lol - you had to throw that in there didnt you matey

I ever believed that they were made in Japan. And maybe, if its made in US, its supposed to be labeled somewhere like the door side. Maybe the bin number can bring some more information about that, don't you :mellow:

in the uk all toyotas that were built in Japan have a little sticker in the windscreen, that says "made in japan" but it could be removed

I'm not sure quite what you meant by that post, jesusm1.

I'm really sure that all 'Seos came from Toyota City. I've read numerous reports and summaries on the Paseo, and If I wasn't really sure, I wouldn't have put it on my website, though I'll be the first to admit that I could be wrong in spite of the reports I've perused. The cynos, I believe, was the Japspec 'seo. It was called the paseo everywhere else. As far as I remember, however, they only kept the cynos name for the first generation. There were two variations of the japspec-the Cynos, and the Cynos B, I'm not sure what the specs are on them or how they're different, though. The second gen was univerally the Paseo. The convertibles were first produced as reinforced coupes and sent to American Sunroof Company (now American Specialty Cars or ASC) and they were then modified to convertibles. It's rare to have one here, but even more rare to see them in Europe.

This is the info I've gathered in the last few years. If I'm wrong, will someone who knows what they're talking about FOR SURE correct me?

Cheers

I don't know about Paseos, but on the Sera there is a code on the VIN plate stating where it was built.

Do Paseos have the same system?

OK it's only a reference (my Sera was built at N11) but if the Paseo was only built in Japan, it's a fair bet that they'll all have the same code reference.

Were the Cynos convertibles shipped to the US for the roof to be hacked off and then shipped back to Japan?

Paseo2nr, you're definitely right

A while ago I found an info sheet on the Seo, but I can't find it now

Anyway, it states they were all made in one factory in Japan, just can't remember where  It was taken from a Toyota press release if memory serves me right

Good response from everybody!!!

A point that I would like to put to investigate this relationship is that my seo cames with Good Year tires instead another japanese one, its makes sense ???? Does US send tires to Japan :huh: ?

The simplest way to tell if it was built in Japan: Look at the VIN number.... if it starts with a J, it was built in Japan.

Problem solved! :D

Just like my JT2AE09EXP0042604 Corolla (and yes, I have that memorised... and yes, I do need to get a life!) It was built in Japan and came with Firestone tyres.... go figure! :hokus-pokus: :bookworm: :bye:

My chassis number doesn't start with a J.
