3Rd Gen Prius Sat Nav

Took delivery a week ago of a Prius T Spirit as a company car. Incredible machine and better than I expected in almost every aspect - except for the Sat Nav ! Just can't understand the logic of the software. I'm not thick - I've been working with computers and medical electronics since the early 80's. But I can not, for the life of me, work out how to use it. The manual is worse than useless. Can anyone point me in the right direction for something equivalent to "Prius Sat Nav for Dummies" Thx.

Intuitive it isn't. Until you adjust your brain to the wonderful world of Toyota.

This is from Memory, but should help.

To set an address destination:

1. Press the NAVI button on the left side of the satnav screen - navigation screen displays

2. Press Destination (on screen)) - display destination screen

3. Press Address - display address screen

4. Press Street (Yes, I know, It's Toyota. You can do it the other way round, but...)

5. Enter street name

6. Press OK

7. Press City

8. Enter Town/Village name

9. Press OK

10. Enter House number, press OK. (Or press the circular icon that means town /village centre)

11. A map of the destination displays. If OK press (I think) Enter at the bottom right of the screen.

12 After a while, press Start on the bottom right of the screen.

This may not be exact, but I think it is close enough for you to find your way round the gaps in my memory.

Good luck

PS. The full postcode option is on the second Destination screen, NOT on the address screen.

When we had the Rover 75 with a Garmin I could set that up with Navteq on the PC or Laptop which was easy. I cannot see well enough to set up the satnav in the car so Christine has to do it. Reading instruction manuals she does not do but she has pretty well mastered it now after 8500 miles and likes the directions must better than the Garmin. We have only been on two sections of very new road, both in France which the satnav did not recognise, but we knew that these were being built anyway.

On a general note the Prius beats the Rover on every count, we are delighted with it. At 8500 miles our MkI Freelander had used 268 gallons, the first Rover 75 221 gallons, the second Rover 217 and the Prius 180.

And of course don't forget the myriad of voice activation commands for the satnav, for e.g when you want to 'shut her up' :!Removed!: just say 'suspend guidance', and 'home' to set itself for your chosen home destination.

I've tried voice command a couple of times but the posh lady says she can't understand my Yorkshire accent..........and then we get into an argument.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get her to repeat an instruction? On my old satnav I could simply press the corner of the screen but I haven't found an equivalent on the Prius.

Having read the OP I wondered just how bad it was and had a go with the Sat Nav yesterday. It took me a couple of tries to get it working, a few minutes of playing with it in other words and I got there. It is not quite as easy as my old Tom Tom but it works ok once you know how. The best advice I think for anybody who struggles with this sort of software is to play with it. It won't break!

I was lucky, I've had Toyota satnav's on my last 4 cars.... This one is the easiest to use and with the added bonus of full UK postcode on page 2,,,,

It's my first Toyota satnav (well fujitsu to be true) but I can't see the problem with it, sure they could put things like postcode on the first screen. But otherwise just type in address and of you go. Went to Belgium/Holland in the weekend and just as simple door-to-door and in the local area.

Still absolutely love the instruction in the HUD.

One key secret of the Prius Satnav is that destination by postcode is on the Second screen.

Also, if you just know the town that you want to get to, & don't have a street name, enter the town name then press the round spot after the name - otherwise the system insists that you pick a street and house number.
