Ecu Security Bolts

Help ! I am trying to get my ECU unit out as I have the classic auto gearbox problems, slipping 1st & 2nd gears etc.

After reading all the forum info and finding out who repairs them I have taken the decision to cut out Toyota as they will not cover it under a guarantee at the moment in Europe and send it to a company for repair.

The problem is I am in Spain and need to send it back to UK for repair. But I cannot undo the 5 ( five not six) star

Tamperproof Torx screw ( an angle grinder is not an option at this stage ).

Does anyone know where I can buy the Key to undo it or have any ideas ?

Regards

Serin.

Hi Sarah and welcome to TOC. Please do NOT go anywhere near your ECU with an angle grinder.blink.gif

Tamper proof Torx keys are readily available from places like Maplins, I'm sure there will be a spanish

equivelant.Otherwise if you have any diy type friends, you can take a standard type torx key and drill it.

edit, for example try this -

Dear Dave M. Thanks for that info. The Spanish stores seem to have the six star torx key. It looks like the 5 star

is for a Toyota tool. Can a 6 star be adapted without burring the head ? Any further ideas will be appreciated.

So much for a half hour job even for me !

Hello everyone. Thanks for all the advice. Managed to locate a company in Cadiz Spain via E Bay Spain who are sending the tools to undo the screws. Should arrive tomorrow. Will let you know if they are successful.

( They are known as Torx TS 5 sided male screwdrivers ) It is amazing what useless information you learn.

Will give you an update once the ECU is removed and sent off for repair.

Were the repaired ECUs done in New York or the UK?

Hola

I didn't want to fit a new one straightaway because of the price. I thought that it would be cheaper to get the old

one repaired. However, it now looks like I may not have a choice. On the 1st June I sent a registered parcel from

Spain to the UK and until now it has not been delivered and the Spanish post office CORREOS have the tracking of

the parcel for just two days ! It goes up until it left the country and then nothing. I have contacted them but they say you must wait two weeks before they can look into it. In the meantime I am in limbo as I have no idea where my

ECU is.

Any ideas on where I may be able to purchase a New ECU with a guarantee ?

You could email m.fernandez@medimotors.com (tel: 966 709 842) she speaks reasonable English if your Spanish is a bit flaky, be sure to ask for the descuenta though!

Hola everyone

Sorry for not replying sooner to this saga but I lost the will to live. My Urgent parcel eventually arrived in the

UK after 13 days ! It was repaired fairly swiftly by ECU and then I requested that it be sent by the courier service

UPS. Then the fun started. The UK govt stepped in and stopped the courier company scanning their own parcels for security reasons. ( Talk about great timing ) It was delayed by a day as it has to go to Germany and then it arrived in Madrid on the Friday. They then drove about 300 miles to Malaga and there it sat all weekend. When I checked on Monday expecting a delivery they had added another 24hrs and would deliver the last 30 miles on Tuesday.

I phoned ECU back in the UK and they contacted UPS to make sure I got the delivery on Monday plus they also managed to reimburse my courier charge !

The only problem is that the ECU still needs to be reset by Toyota ( according to their ECM Reset memory function bulletin TC002-03)and this is something I need to sort out as other factors have happened which hasn't made this possible yet. The saga continues and I will let you know when this happens and if any problems still exist.
