70K Service & Warranty

Hi Guys

Just had my 56 plate Rav XT4 D4D in for it 70K service and whilst it was in I asked the dealer to have a look at a few niggly issues as the cars under Toyotas extended warranty (only purchased it from the dealer 7 months ago) and I've been surprised at the response so any comments advice welcome.

I reported to the dealer that the car felt down on power especially in the last month so wondered could it be the EGR valve (had a similar problem with a VAG engine which proved to be a sooted up EGR). The dealer took the EGR off and reported that it was completely blocked and it would be replaced under THE 7 YR/120,000 Toyota engine warranty on these 2.2 D4D engines. This morning I got a call from the dealer saying that Toyota also wanted the head off and the piston rings and potentially the pistons themselves replacing! The reasoning in case the blocked EGR has caused damage to the said parts.

As for the steering knock (know problem showed the dealer the TSB sheets from here) and the drivers seat adjuster (seat back doesnt spring back when pulled) Toyota have asked that an engineer inspedcts the vehicle to see if these are covered under the extended Toyota warranty sold as part of the car purchase. Seems a bit starnge that for the known piddly work they need to see the car but for the engine rebuild they dont!

I have to say the cars been great since day one and despite the niggly faults Im very surprised that all this works needs done so is there anything I should be wary of or just relax and let Mr T rebuild the engine.

Many Thanks

As you say, relax and let them get on with the engine.

As for the seat, the extended warranty does exclude the interior so it is reasonable for them to want to have a closer look.

The steering knock issue is known but there are three different manifestations of that with three different solutions so, again, I guess they will need to check it to see which of the three problems it is.

I've just had the 'Plastic washer and bump stop' fix done under warranty but, even though I was able to identify the specific issue and referred to the appropriate TSB, my dealer had to inspect the car and apply to Toyota for warranty authorisation.
