Hi there,

Just wondering what the real difference is of prices to be paid in other countries.

Here in Belgium, I received following discounts on my purchase of an AURIS HSD LUNA (= baseline version, don' exactly know how its called in other countries).

The only option I took was Silver metallic colour.

Catalogue price for this car was €24680 (= £21386)

Discounts :

- Gift for ordering in december : €300

- Car saloon discount : €1000

- Tax reduction (from the gouvernement for cars producing less than 105 gr CO2/km) : €3507

- Bonus to stop using an old (polluting) car : €1000

- Discount from the dealer : €373

Exact amount paid : €18500 (= £16031)

On top of that, I received a 5 years full service plan for free (worth €1272)

Don't know how this compares to other European countries, so I wondered...

Hi,

You will find that there are all sorts of discounts that apply depending on the country (or even which dealer) you buy from.

All European governments have an obligation to reduce pollution, so they will all offer some sort of incentive for people to buy "green" cars.

In the UK, we get free annual road tax and in London there is a congestion charge in place to try to reduce the number of vehicles in the city centre, but Hybrids and Electric vehicles are exempt from this.

Purchase price will also depend on how you decide to finance the vehicle. Toyota Financial Services have some finance products (such as Ecologic Leasing available in some European countries) designed to promote low emission cars.

So you can't really compare prices across regions. All you can say is that if you end up paying the list price for the car then you are being ripped off. You should be able to get a substantial discount on that.

If you want to do any sensible comparison (which is fun I admit), you will have to start with the price before any taxes and duties, build it up to the 'on-the-road' price and then you can strip it down again with various discounts. For example VAT/BTW is at different rates, then some countries also add BVB, then some add new car duties or levies, it gets complex very quickly.
