Cigarette Light Plug Came Out

Not a major problem but I would welcome any help. Today I pulled a plug out of my cigarette lighter socket and the socket came half out as well. I have pushed it partly back in but it will not go the full way, there seems to be a yellow plastic locking ring that has broke, I am afraid in case the wires get tangled behind it and short.

How do I remove the ash tray panel so that I can try and secure it?

First remove the panel around the gear lever. There are two clips at the forward upper end and you may have to remove the gear knob. The panel above with the ash tray is also held in with clips and can be pulled out.
