Mine are 6000K and had no unwanted attention for about 3 years... I removed the kit before the MOT inspection though. Auris is quite new model, has projectors and HIDs as an extra option, so it isn't so noticeable on the roads. I believe they only stop old cars without the projectors which clearly cannot have factory fitted HIDs, so you should be safe!

6000k kit fitted. Not been stopped by Police.

Make sure they are aligned correctly and you should be fine.

How come not? I think they can, if you don't have washers, auto-levelling, and letters on the lamp which tell that they are designed for HIDs and not the halos...

In my cars i have a 8000k in one, a 6000k in my avenis t-spirit and i think a 4300k in my toyota chaser it does not have prjectors and passes test no problem it comes that way from japan as standard back in 1997 never been stopped once and i drive with my lights on all day long. Go for a 6000k kit which are canbus error free ballasts. 10000k to 30000k hid kits and you might be pulled in.......

I can't find the link that I was looking for to the Auto-express video regarding hid kits... However here is the text that accompanied it:-

Retrofit HIDconversion bulbs that fit in place of halogen bulbs are illegal to use on the road in UK just like they are in the rest of Europe and even the US.

These kits are not E approved and are not DOT approved. Any one selling them as such are doing so fraudlently. They are simply trying to rip you off.

Bosch, OSRAM, Panasonic andPhilips do not make such kits. Any one selling kits as such are selling counterfeit good and are trying to rip you off.

There was one hell of a discussion on here a few weeks ago about just this subject....

If you can find it the whole thread makes interesting reading..

I believe that thread was in the Prius section of the the forum, titled 'Bothered by bright lights'.

If a qualified MOT tester has informed us that they WILL pass the MOT, then i guess he probably knows better than the rest of us?

As far as I know the full test criteria for HID lighting is not due to come into force until November 2011. So until then MOT testers can pass whatever they like. As far as I know VOSA have not as yet issued guidlelines to MOT testing stations. This has come about due to a new EU directive so if you don't inform your insurers of headlight modifications you may be in breach of your insurance policy.

Some companies selling after-market HID kits are now stating they are only suitable for off-road use - although you may have to read the very (very small indeed) small print to find out. It's probably a get-out clause similar to those who sell 100 watt halogens.

Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware.
