Warranty Document With Used Car?

I bought my car just over a month ago, a 7 month old TR 1.33. Should I have received some documentation concerning the change of the warranty into my name? Or doesn't Toyota work this way?

I received some documentation in a smart folder, but the only mention of warranty is a piece of paper referring to the one year approved used car warranty.

It's about 10 years since I last bought a used Toyota; there wasn't any warranty document then, and there was no problem about getting some warranty work done on the gearbox. However, I used the same garage from which I'd bought the car.

In this case, I'd probably want any work (if any were necessary) done at a different garage, purely because it's 20 miles nearer to me.

Hi there....

I believe the 3 (now 5?) year warranty is on the car, not the owner. Why not give the dealer a call and ask how that works? It could be that you don't need any paperwork as such?

I have a "Change of address or ownership" pamphlet that came with mine.

It contains a post card you send to Toyota UK to advise of change of ownership - but says you can call them and tell them raher than posting the card.

So just ring them on the number quoted - 0845 275 5555 - and let them know that you're the new owner.

Its the same number on the "Club Toyota" change of owner pamphlet too. You'll want to be registered for Club Toyota to get your 12 months free roadside recovery that comes with a new or used Toyota...

The warranty is with the car, but you might as well make sure that Toyota UK have your contact details on the system for Club Toyota membership, recalls or any other contact...

Thanks, you're both right, as it happens!

I spoke to the dealers, who said that the warranty is linked with the car, not the driver. It makes sense, because if the dealer gets a strange car in, they can easily check the registration date online. And hence no need for paperwork.

While looking through the instruction manual, service book, etc. folder, I came across the 'change of addres or owner' form alfiejts mentioned. I'll give them a ring later today.

Thanks again.
