Supermarket Diesel Fuel

I have recently encountered intermittent power loss with my 2002 Avensis D4D, especially above 2500revs. Reviewing the Avensis forum I read that supermarket fuels may well be the issue, and especially Morrisons. The recommendation was to add a can of Powerenhancer BG 244 to the fuel tank, one can is sufficient to treat 60 ltrs. The problem was resolved successfully, full power having been restored and decrease in fuel consumption to 54mpg I am now going to change to Shell fuel, regular to start with. I will post further comments should they be necessary

The Shell V-Power Diesel is quite nice stuff; I throw a tank in every now and then (Or if I'm near empty and know I'm going to be hitting the motorway in the near future).

Makes my D4D run so smooooth :D

Adds a few quid to the cost of a full tank tho' :S

I would never ever put supermarket fuel in my tank, a few years back in rochdale there was a bucket full of horror stories about cars being effected by asda/tesco filling stations over dirty tankers dirty forecourt tanks and it continues this day and age the local paper was reporting lots of vehicles needing extensive work to put them back on the road.

Even my own car was suffered a lot of people are buying it for the price and its false economy and more so on modern cars that have EGR's ect.

A good point mate. In the long term its better to use a fuel like V-Power. Joining the V-Power club gives you money off vouchers when you buy fuel, so in the long run the fuel cost between the "Normal" derv and V-Power is very close. Putting a tuning box on also adds another 7 mpg and 25bhp to your right tootie :toast:

the sulphur in the diesel is the woorst enemy for fuel injection system especially for injector tips (precision type)-- each supermarket tries to catch the client by a cheaper price for diesel and the client goes like fish on the hook. What then -- supermarket gets more and more clients but you lose money for injectors as not cheap nowadays etc. it is better to feed your engine with good meal to prevent head ache. Good luck/Igor

Really?? I thought Sulphur was good for injectors!

I know when they went from LSD to ULSD, they had to stick loads of additives in to compensate for the loss of lubricity, and even then there were a few older cars who's injectors were damaged because they relied on the lubricating effect of the sulphur in the older higher-sulphur diesels.

This is one of the nice things about biodiesel - It is much better than de-sulphured mineral diesel at lubricating injectors. I reckon this is why we're seeing the 5% blend more and more - It has a strong lubricating effect and is much cheaper than the additives they used to use to compensate for the loss of sulphur...

hi mate

ok a bit of chemistry -- S (sulphur)+ H2O (or moisture belong to diesel) = H2S04 --- you can put even ordiniary nail into this acid and the result will be obvious. The less S in the diesel the better performance of fuel injection system.

Each diesel both high grade and Morrisons's has sulphur but in diferent %. When engine is stopped and cools down the diesel reminder both in the cylinder and in the injection system contacts with moisture air converting into H2S04 even partly. Cheers/Igor
