a Avensis has only 4 injectors who told you you had this problem?

The D-cat engine has 5 injectors. The 5th injector is part of the DPF system, and injects diesel into the cat in order to regenerate.

Have you tried a Toyota or fuel injection specialist rather than a dealer?

i went to my local toyota dealer. they said it 'squirts' diesel into the cat every so often to clean it. im led to beleive there is a fuel line from the last injector. i was thinking of doing away with this line. Do you think this would effect the car in any other way ?

Yes it will effect the car in a BAD way.

The DPF will not regenerate, and that will result in a EML light, lack of power, and a potential bill of a few thousand pounds for a new DPF.

Add into the equation the fact that you would need to plug this hose off, or you will lose fuel instead of having it squirted into the DPF when required.

It may cost money now, but it will probably cost more in the long run if its left alone.

Sorry for the bad news, but i'm a realist and won't tell you what you want to hear just to make you feel better if the end result is likely to be worse.

ok cheers but shes for Mot now so i was planning on Moting her and trading her in with a dealer. If i could bypass it how long do you think it would last as i literally will be doing 50 mile before trading her in?

I don't know to be honest. It might last for a long time, it may go in a few mins.

The 5th injector will be wired in to the ECU, so i would expect it to notice the missing link, and flag up a fault code and light on the dash, BUT i could be totally wrong.

No idea mate, i would look at something like 'Glasses' price guide, or maybe search for one like yours on Autotrader and see what they are selling for.

I thought the DCAT engine with the fifth injector is the 2.2 not the 2.0 and wasn't introduced until 2006 onwards so it can't be on your 2004 model
