Ok boys and girls, after trying to sell the dam thing for the past 6months, ive decided to keep her and do a light bit of modifying.

Ive been looking at slamming her and giving her some new shoes. How low can i go with 18's and 17's (do 18's fit)? and do they rub when going round corners etc. If they do, what can i do? take the plastic bits out of the arch?

Many thanks

Nathan

Take a look at mr ben's post a bit further down the topics page. He has put 18's on his iQ and it looks the business.

If you fit 18" rims with a 215 wide tyre or 17" rims with a 215 wide tyre the outside diameter of the tyre will be virtually identical.

Its normally 215/35/18, or 215/40/17,

the 17" tyre is only a smidgen less rolling diameter but hardly so you would notice.

You cant go fitting a tyre thats actually taller or less in height than standard without effecting gearing & speedo readings.

The width is down to if the tyre fits in the arch & does not rub & the same when the suspension is lowered with shorter springs.

mr ben & others say its no problem.

i say that 215/35/18 tyres & lowering springs make for a very uncomfortable ride on bad roads.

Tell your insurance company & confirm in writing or your insurance my be invalid because its a modified vehicle.

They dont need to know because your vehicle goes faster, because it wont, but because its possibly more desirable to thiefs or just the wheels are, & that can cause as much damage as they try to steal them, so an increased risk,

doesnt mean the premium must go up, but safer to check.

*if you cut a circle with paper 17" in diameter & a 18" one & lay on top of each over you will see how little visual difference there is, the little difference of the slightly taller side wall on the tyre used with the 17" rim does help a bit with ride comfort tho, important the kind of roads you drive on, potholes are very uncomfrtable *
