Hi all,

This is my first post so im sorry if these questions seem a little "thick"; I have just purchased the car 2nd hand and love it, not had it long, Ihave read the manual and wondered if I could aska few questions;

1. Does the vehicle have the ability to set the doors to lock once you reach a certain speed ?

2. Can the alarm be set to auto turn on (its the model with the button in the roof you press to turn of internal sensors)

3. Sat Nav, I've heard that some versions disable certain functions once travelling, I have the Gen5 TNS700 system (established from looking at mapupdates site), does this suffer from any such features being disabled on the move ? a taxi driver recently told me it was a pain as you cant choose a new destination once moving, is that so for this model ? if so are there any "overide functions" ?

4. I have read about head gasket problem on the vehicle, any other things I should watch out for on the model and check ? (I have a 12 month warranty from dealer).

I'm not really a petrol head so dont do too much myself, but obviously I can listen to any advice you all might have :-)

Thanks

Mike

As a fellow T180 tourer driver i'll try to answer your Q's

1) I dont think the T25 came with the autodoor locking, and I am Glad it drives me potty when I drive a car that has it. I think it was only introduced on the new T27.

2) I have no idea by what you mean by the alarm to auto turn on? When you lock the car (using the key fob) the alarm comes on. I dont use the key to lock the car so im not sure that its alarms when you do that. But the internal sensor button works.

3) Yup the sat nav is a pain in that you cant programme it on the move. I think anything over 5mph and it doenst let you change destination. Do a seach on the forum its has been covered before but I cant remember anyone comeing up with any overrides or work arounds for it.

4) Nothing much to watch out for other then enjoy the car its spot on. But if you are looking for things, then the egr valve and inlet manifold area needs a clean every 10k. There is a very good guide in the auris section (just do a search for it) that shows step by step what to do. Only takes 30 mins to do.

I'd run the car on Shell V-Power derv as mine goes much better on the stuff. And if you join the V-Power club that Shell runs you get money off. I've just had almost £20 of free diesel vouchers sent to me. Try using a K&N air filter in there as I've found it to make a saving on fuel. These filers dont give you a problem with the MAF in my experiance. Running some BG244 in the fuel every 10k helps to maintain the dreaded EGR valve. I also use Millers diesel clean to (Called Diesel Power Ecomax now I believe for euro emissions 4) some would say an over kill. But I've used the Millers stuff for well over 15 years and it does do what it says on the tin and I've never had a problem with fuel injectors.

If you want more fuel economy think about a "Tunit" box as this has given me 7mpg more and has taken the car upto 210 bhp on setting 5 (9 settings, and 9 being the light speed warp setting) You can pick one up for as little as £150 off eBay! and they cost almost £500 from Tunit. I have one on my VW polo and thats made a massive difference. Make sure you inform your insurer as this can increase the premium.

Change the engine oil every 6-10k. I use Mobil 1 ESP (5w-30) C2/C3 spec for the D-CAT and fuel economy. And I've also changed the box oil to Silkolen Pro SRG (Straight 75w grade) full Ester oil, so no more crunches into 2nd gear and I can select 1st gear easily from cold.

Hope this helps :thumbsup:
